Mammograms use X-ray technology, which should not affect the implanted components. However, it is possible that the device can cause image artifact, and some imaging facilities may avoid performing mammograms on patients with an implanted device due to suboptimal image quality.
Patients should inform the technologist about their Inspire® implant. The Inspire generator can typically withstand the compression of an exam, however, positioning and handling of the mammogram equipment may cause discomfort. There is a possibility that therapy could be impacted.
The patient should inform the technologist if there is discomfort beyond what is typically expected. If the patient experiences changes to their therapy, they should follow up with their Inspire-trained provider.
