South Carolina man is active again after treating OSA with Inspire® therapy

Joe Parisi and his wife Brenda enjoy quality time together since his sleep improved. Parisi has obstructive sleep apnea, successfully treating it with Inspire® therapy.

The worst part is that he and his wife Brenda needed to sleep in separate rooms due to his obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) symptoms.

It took years before Parisi eventually found relief with Inspire® therapy.

“I don’t snore anymore, and I wake up feeling just wonderful,” he said.

Life was different in the early days of his OSA diagnosis.

The South Carolina man snored loudly every night.

He also woke up exhausted each morning and lacked the energy to perform normal, everyday tasks.

“If you haven’t experienced sleep apnea, it’s hard to explain,” Parisi said. “It’s horrible. It affects you mentally, physically, just every part of your life.”

Parisi received a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine to treat his OSA.

He tried to use it consistently. He still didn’t feel rested, however.

The mask and hose remained uncomfortable. It also made his snoring worse.

It became difficult to move around at night and put a strain on his relationship.

“CPAP didn’t get me the quality sleep that I have now with Inspire, that’s for sure,” Parisi said.

He and Brenda were married in 2023. They had trouble sleeping the first years together.

Brenda either woke up from loud snoring or due to anxiety. She constantly worried when she heard Parisi choking in his sleep.

The sleep struggles also made it challenging for Parisi to do things he used to love. This includes golfing, camping, hiking and taking walks with Brenda.

“I was at the point where I needed to do something,” he said. “I needed to do something about this. The CPAP wasn’t working. The other methods I was trying weren’t working.”

Parisi took multiple sleep studies and his OSA increased from moderate to severe around the same time he qualified for Inspire therapy.

He received the implant in 2022.

Both he and Brenda noticed a difference once his doctor made a few adjustments. That led Parisi to reach his therapeutic level.

“I don’t snore anymore, and I wake up feeling just wonderful,” he said.

The relationship between Parisi and Brenda also improved.

They can sleep in the same bed again. They also spend more quality time together.

“We can go out for a walk and enjoy it, where before, I was exhausted,” Parisi said. “It’s things like that really changed my life with it.”

Parisi golfs more often. He also doesn’t need to pull over and take a nap during long drives.

His blood pressure decreased after his sleep improved, as well. His doctors reduced his daily medications from five to just two in response.
