Inspire® therapy ended up being the answer to Nancy Magyar’s problems.

“Inspire ensures I will get a good night’s sleep,” Nancy said. “I have pep throughout the day.”

But her obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) took a toll on her health before she found relief. It even made her take a break from teaching.

Nancy commuted 45 minutes to work each way when working as a teacher at School City of East Chicago. Those drives were tough on her due to extreme exhaustion from her OSA.

Treatments like a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine did not work well.

Nancy tried multiple masks and machines. They kept her awake and made her feel even more tired. She also took care of her grandchildren. And overall fatigue made daily tasks difficult to manage.

Nancy felt like her life was stuck in a fog.

Sleep studies later confirmed she had severe OSA and oxygen deprivation. Severe OSA is when you stop breathing over 30 times per hour while sleeping. Family members started to notice her loud snoring and sleep apnea episodes, as well.

“My brother-in-law could hear me from his room when he and my sister would stay with me,” Nancy said. “He thought I was dying because I would hold my breath for so long.”

Nancy first heard about Inspire therapy during lunch with a friend. Her friend remembered her doctor talking about alternative options for OSA.

She decided to research it for herself. It led to an appointment with an Inspire-trained provider. Nancy went through the qualification process and had surgery in June 2021.

The results are positive with her apneas reduced. She is even teaching again now that she’s sleeping better.

Nancy offers classes five days a week for English as a second language.

“I wouldn’t be able to do something that intense without Inspire,” she said. “It’s made my life just wonderful, and I’m so happy with where I’m at.”
