Inspire® therapy makes Ohio woman feel like dancing

Denise McCall loves to go dancing. A lack of energy limited her time on the dance floor.

A sleep study later confirmed she had severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Years passed until she found a treatment that worked for her.

She’s now feeling better and is back to moving to the beat on the dance floor after starting Inspire® therapy.

“I feel amazing, and I’m sleeping well at night,” McCall said. “I don’t feel like I have to sit down and rest all the time. I’m in love with it.”

Sleep might be better now. But things were a challenge before and after her initial OSA diagnosis.

McCall developed heart issues before her sleep study. It took months of blood and stress tests before a cardiologist tested her for sleep apnea.

The study confirmed she stopped breathing 70 times an hour while trying to sleep.

McCall first tried a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine.

This worked well for a few months. Then she noticed it became more difficult to tolerate at night.

Another sleep study showed she still had too many apnea episodes. The doctor then prescribed a Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) machine.

The BiPAP worked for a few months like her CPAP machine. Just like before, she suddenly had trouble using it consistently.

“I was having blood pressure issues again, and my doctor told me I needed to do something or I was going to have a heart attack,” McCall said. “I tried multiple masks, but they made me feel like I was suffocating.”

McCall later came across an ad for Inspire therapy while scrolling through Facebook.

She researched the Inspire therapy and reached out to an Inspire-trained provider.

McCall eventually qualified and had surgery in March 2022. Better sleep came soon after her appointment to turn on Inspire therapy a month later.

Today, her restored energy is helping her stay active and keep up with her grandkids.

“I used to be so tired throughout the whole day,” McCall said. “Now I feel so rested and revitalized. I wake up, and I’m good to go.”
