Celina Garcia knows how important it is to take care of your health as a registered nurse.
The Texas resident learned she had obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in 2016.
She struggled to use a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine for years.
The OSA symptoms affected Garcia’s ability to work as an RN. She remained fatigued during the day and her alertness was down.
Then she found out about Inspire® therapy.
“It was a no-brainer for me,” Garcia said. “I needed to do something so I could be sharp at my job.”
Garcia did not sleep well. Her husband often woke her in the middle of the night when she stopped breathing.
Her motivation to get her OSA under control went up after her father developed heart disease. Garcia knew poor sleep may cause heart problems for her too.
She started CPAP after her initial diagnosis.
It worked at first. That didn’t last long after settings changed.
Suddenly, Garcia couldn’t tolerate the machine.
She first heard about Inspire therapy from a radio ad. She consulted with a doctor who performed the surgery at the hospital she worked at outside of Austin.
Garcia later qualified and received the Inspire® implant in the fall of 2020.
She now feels less fatigued during the day.
Garcia also became a resource for other patients. She discusses her experience to anyone who wants to know more about Inspire therapy.
“I introduce myself and answer any questions they have,” Garcia said. “It helps them to see someone who already has it.”
